From a land that gives us Hello Kitty, Zao-Cai Mao, ... obviously cats form a integral part of their culture.
Now, they have Tama, a tortoiseshell kitty who was appointed a stationmaster of an unmanned train station.
He wears the official train employee uniform, and because he's doing a great job attracting curious passengers which improved the bottom line of the loss-making train line, the kittie is promoted to super-stationmaster.
